MR WHITS. a piece from my web.
A piece from my web which I've recently put together, this illustration is quite old but the colouring is recent. I think the colour help enlarge the attraction.
A piece from the XL brief.
This was a piece that was a part of my first idea which was illustrating a portrait of each celebrity and conjoining them within an illustration alongside things that represent music e.g. music awards, musical objects, pianos, cd's etc.
Third Portfolio Visit Was by 'Day Job' in London.
My third visitor for my portfolio was by a small team in london that are working together called 'DayJob'. They had some positive things to say but just added the same thing the others added that having a limited palette would limit the attraction in my work so that bit of advice I took onboard well. They also mentioned that getting involved in small projects, volunteering for small jobs and applying for competitions would create a field for me and how would get work out of it. They also said that having a logo presenting what I do would make me look a lot more professional. So everything that has been said is what I'm going to do throughout each piece of work and what I do with it.
Second Portfolio Visit. By Agency illustration Limited.
My second portfolio visit was with an agency in london called 'Illustration Limited' and I got some good feedback on my work because they liked the fact I worked with portraits and style. They were saying do more portrait based illustrations because a lot of newspaper and magazine articles commission illustrators on stylised portraits. One of the illustrators pointed out that if my illustrations were busier then this would liven the fun in my work, this was highly relevant to me because most of my art represents single things like a face or an object, if more was going on then I'd hit a strong point. They also pointed out that adding colour would strengthen each illustration, so all in all I was pleased with what they said.
First Portfolio Visit. Agent Fig Taylor.
The first person that looked at and examined my portfolio was agent Fig Taylor, she ran me through all the advantages and disadvantages of my illustrations. She pointed out that my work was more editorial based then anything and that adding that slight bit of colour in some my drawings would bring life to them. She could see that I was creative and capable and just going that extra mile by adding colour would get me work in the right places.

Opportunities.
I'm always one to be posting my work on Facebook, instagram, deviant art and just basically show off my work anyway I can. And just through posting on Facebook I've had the odd bit of commission work here and there, even through a social site called deviant art they always post about new upcoming competitions i can get involved in so where ever there is an opportunity I'm always the first to grab it. Either that or i try and get the tutors to help me on looking for new things. As i was mentioning before its just about staying active and opportunities pop up on the way. There's an illustration/fashion event that I'm going to around late June and through that i will meet people that are doing new things, others that are doing similar and people that are doing things that will inspire you to do better. And just through that it will create a type of betterment in my work and i may even attract someone that wants to work with me. Its just down to the person and if they're on the 'get-go'.
Fears.
My fears have been a consistent thing throughout the illustration course because I'm always one to worry, but mainly my fears always evolve around not staying active and just keeping myself on the go with illustration. The course keeps me updated with events, important announcements, meetings, competitions, clients and many other things and this is a good thing obviously but I find myself relying on the course to feed me this information rather then going out there myself and getting it my own way. Because when I graduate I'll turn lazy and I'll end up working in something else rather doing the things I love which is illustrating. So its just trying to stay updated and keep finding ways to get my work out there myself. Before I started the course I didn't realize there were so many ways on getting exposure and getting work for yourself and when you find the smaller jobs they lead to bigger commissions so its just experiencing the journey until you get there. There have been fears along the way but as I've carried on my confidence has grew.
Hopes.
As I'm in my third year of university my hopes have come into play as well as I wanted them to. The last time I posted I just wanted to get through university and keep my head above water because there were points throughout certain projects where I didn't think I was going to do well as I should of. By the time I graduate I hope to be continuing with illustration and just trying to get involved in small projects, competitions, commission pieces, art jobs, workshops and just something that will give my work slight exposure so it creates an avenue for me to get going on bigger and better jobs. Recently I've took a break off illustration apart from my university projects and other ongoing pieces I've took a break so that I don't lose the hobby out of being creative and getting drawings done. Too much illustrating can sometimes drain the fun out of it and I don't want to experience an expiry because illustration is meant for fun and letting loose of your creativity.

Another Sneak peak at the Goldie Locks idea.
So I added my original thicker line style to one of the bears and it turns out alot more exciting then the thinner line drawings. For that bear alone it took an hour and a half. Too much time killing, I prefer the loose stuff because I can get more done.

Something that took me awhile but I got to the end of, last time I posted I hadn't even launched but now I am live and online with a range of products firing across the site. Northwestclothing.co.uk
Goldie Locks project.
Another half finished piece that will be a part of the story I'm illustrating. I usually work with thicker lines rather then the lighter detail I've used here. But that bit of change has helped the story.
Self directed project FMP, goldie locks and the three bears.
Something I'm working on for the second half of my FMP, illustrating the story of Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. This illustration is barely finished but just a sneak peak of what I'm working on.
XL recordings competition.. project brief.
This was a music related brief and it had asked me to illustrate events through out they're history that have been successful e.g. award winnings, performances, celebrations and many more.
